La Bienal Gwangju es una exposición internacional de arte contemporáneo que tiene lugar cada dos años. En 2024 se celebra la 15a. edición, con el tema "PANSORI, a soundscape of the 21st century", dedicado a la ópera coreana pansori. Se presentan obras de diversos artistas nacionales e internacionales, de países como Francia, Estados Unidos y Argentina. Algunos de ellos son Nicolas Bourriaud, Barbara Lagié, Sophia Park y Florencia Levy, entre otros.

Aldea Cheongchun Balsan (청춘발산마을)

La Aldea Balsan fue una zona representativa de Gwangju. Se conformó como un asentamiento de refugiados de la Guerra de Corea y luego, en los años 70 y 80 del siglo XX, las pequeñas casas apiñadas en la ladera de una montaña atrajeron a jóvenes que buscaban trabajo, principalmente mujeres para las fábricas textiles cercanas. En años recientes, un proyecto de renovación urbana con la incorporación de murales coloridos y otros espacios públicos le ha dado a la aldea un nuevo aire, convirtiéndose en un destino turístico de Gwangju.

Yehyang, a legendary restaurant among many diners who visit Gwangju, is located on a country setting near Gwangju Airport.
It prides in Gwangju style ‘hanjeongsik’ (Korean table d’hote).
As you walk across the outdoor playground and trails, you can imagine that you are at a resort rather than a restaurant.
Once you are inside the building, the stunning view of the serene country life and antiquated interior will grab your attention.
‘Hanjeongsik’ (Korean table d’hote)is abundantly arranged from appetizers like ‘kkaejuk’ (porridge made of perilla seeds) to home style refreshments like ‘nureungji’ (scorched rice from the bottom of the pot).

Estadio de la Copa Mundial de Gwangju (광주월드컵경기장)

El Estadio de la Copa Mundial es el emblema de Gwangju. Diseñado para reflejar la noción de "expandiéndose lejos", el exterior tiene la forma de los rayos de una rueda. Cuando está iluminado, parece un domo brillante. El cielorraso y sus largos pilares con forma de Y parecen los instrumentos de un juego tradicional de Gwangju, el gossaumnori. Los arquitectos han buscado reflejar en la estructura aspectos tradicionales del área de Gwangju.

Yeongmi Oritang has been serving up duck stew (oritang) to the community for over 80 years. Made with ground perilla seeds, soybean paste, chili powder, garlic, and other carefully selected ingredients, the duck is boiled in an earthen pot and seasoned with ginseng, jujube, and water parsley to suit each customer's individual tastes. The dish is served with kimchi side dishes, which are said to enhance the flavor of the duck meat. Since duck is known to be effective in treating liver and geriatric diseases, the restaurant is popular not only for its delicious flavors, but also for the health benefits of its food.

Estación de Gwangju (광주역)

La Estación de Gwangju es la principal estación ferroviaria de Gwangju, ciudad con gran vida cultural e industrial. Fue inaugurada en 1922, y en julio de 1969 se trasladó al lugar donde se encuentra actualmente. Por aquí también pasan trenes KTX, y es la estación terminal de los trenes que parten hacia Yongsan de Seúl, Mokpo, Daejeon y Suncheon. Gwangju es la única metrópolis de la zona suroeste de Corea, y aquí se realizan distintos festivales y eventos de fama internacional como el Festival Cultural del Kimchi, la Bienal de Gwangju, etc. Cerca de la estación se ubica el monte Mudeungsan, el cual está rodeado de famosos templos budistas como Jeungsimsa y Wonhyosa.

Mercado Yangdong de Gwangju (광주 양동시장)

Sobre su origen, se dice que el Mercado Yangdong de la ciudad de Gwangju era un mercado pequeño ubicado bajo el puente Gwangjugyo en la década de 1910.
