Hoemunsan National Recreational Forest, located in Sunchang, Jeollabuk-do, opened in 1993 with a daily maximum limit of 500 people. There’s a waterfall next to the rock gate near the entrance of the forest and a suspension bridge further ahead. Above the suspension bridge is an observatory that provides visitors with a panoramic view of the area. The 5.5 kilometer path to the peak has various types of trees and flowers and also houses many different types of birds. The forest has many facilities including a water playground, exercise machines, volleyball court, pagoda, walking trails, and hiking trails.

Hoemunsan Mountain (alt. 830 m) stands at the border of Imsil-gun, Sunchang-gun, and Jeongeup-si. It consists of three peaks — Hoemunbong, Janggunbong, and Gitdaebong Peaks — and stretches 8 kilometers from east to west and 5 kilometers from north to south. Because the Seomjingang River, flowing from Okjeongho Lake, surrounds Hoemunsan Mountain on two sides, the view from the peak is fascinating. There are many valleys popular for water play in the summer, drawing many visitors to the villages of Deokchi and Cheondam.

The Seomjingang River, one of the four major rivers in Korea, starts from Imsil and Sunchang. It merges with several bodies of water in Gokseong, Gurye and Hadong before flowing into the South Sea.
In Gokseong, the Seomjingang River is also known as the Sunjagang River. It flows about 36 kilometers through the region. A number of big and small valleys throughout the length of the river provide fantastic views and relaxation spots all year round. Also, Riverside Festival and Seomjingang Literature Forum are held every summer to offer fun summer activities along the river.

Hanok Pension is an old traditional Korean house located in Samjinae Village, Changpyeong-myeon, Damyang-gun, the first village in Asia to be listed as a 'Slow Village.' It has 15 guestrooms in traditional Korean house buildings along a stone-wall road just like in the old days in Korea. The guesthouse is conveniently located for those planning to visit Juknokwon (Bamboo Garden) and Metasequoia Street, which is regarded as the most beautiful street in Korea, because they are all within 30 minutes away from the guesthouse on foot. The old traditional Korean house consists of one main building and two detached buildings, between which is a large front yard. The two detached buildings are divided into different sections for the guests to stay in. You will see lots of different wild flowers in and around the premises. Songgangjeong pavilion is located in Wongang-ri, Damyang-gun, Jeollanam-do. It was registered as Jeollanam-do Provincial Monument No. 1 on January 29, 1972.

Joseon dynasty poet Jeong Cheol (pen name, Songgang) composed his famed poem “Samiingok” from this pavilion. Next to it presently stands the Samingok memorial stone. The two structures at this site, Hwanbyeonkdang and Sigyeongjeong, are collectively referred to as the “Relics of Jeong Songgang.”
