Le festival du café à Gangneung a été inauguré en 2009 pour faire de Gangneung la ville du cafée en Corée. L'événement vise ainsi à promouvoir le développement de l'industrie du café à Gangneung. Le festival met aussi en avant la culture passée et présentée de la ville via une série d'expositions et d'ateliers. Des séminaires sont aussi régulièrement organisés durant l'événement.
