Le marché de la gare Songjeong a ouvert ses portes en 1913, en même temps que la gare Songjeong. C'était un endroit où tous les habitants du quartier allaient faire leurs courses pendant de longues années. Mais la création des grands supermarchés dans les 1990 a rendu ce marché de moins en moins compétitif. Le marché Songjeong a arrêté la concurrence avec les grands supermarchés et a commencé à renforcer les caractéristiques des marchés traditionnels. L'espace a été totalement remodelé sous le thème du 'temps'

Le marché de la gare Songjeong 1913 qui se situe en face de la gare KTX Gwangju-Songjeong a maintenant une architecture moderne avec des magasins qui ont des jolies enseignes qui montrent l'histoire de ces boutiques. On peut y goûter les plats des marchés traditionnels comme les hotteok (galette fourrée au sucre), les gyeran bap (du riz aux oeufs), les eomuk (des pâtes de poissons), etc.
