Centro de Arte ARKO (아르코미술관)

El Centro de Arte ARKO fue fundado en 1974 como Misulhoegwan en un edificio del antiguo Hospital Deoksu en Gwanhun-dong, Jongno-gu, Seúl, para ofrecer un espacio de exposiciones que resultaba muy necesario para artistas y grupos artísticos. En 1979, Misulhoegwan se mudó a su edificio actual, diseñado por el preeminente arquitecto coreano Kim Swoo-geun (1931-1986) y ubicado en el Parque Marronnier, el antiguo terreno de la Universidad Nacional de Seúl. Los dos edificios de ladrillo vecinos que albergan el Centro de Arte ARKO y el Teatro de Artes ARKO son los principales puntos de referencia del área de Daehakro.

A medida que más museos públicos y privados y galerías comerciales ingresaron a la escena artística en la década de 1990, Misulhoegwan pasó a curar y presentar sus propias exposiciones. Renombrado como Centro de Arte Marronnier en 2002, el Centro de Arte ARKO asumió un sistema de museo integral de arte y desempeñó un papel cada vez más destacado como organización de arte pública líder en cuanto al paradigma del arte contemporáneo. Cuando la Fundación para la Cultura y las Artes de Corea renació como Consejo de las Artes de Corea, el Centro de Arte Marronnier se convirtió en el Centro de Arte ARKO, con el nombre de la abreviatura de Consejo de las Artes de Corea en 2005.

El Centro de Arte ARKO se compromete a funcionar como una plataforma donde la investigación, la producción, las exposiciones y el intercambio de actividades creativas crezcan y se desarrollen en conexión entre sí, además de contar con una diversidad de programas que incluyen exposiciones temáticas que abordan la agenda social y programas públicos que promueven ampliamente diversos discursos en el mundo del arte.

Opened in 1953 by a woman known as Mabongnim, the restaurant takes pride in its 50-plus years of service. As Mabongnim gained popularity, other similar establishments opened nearby, and eventually, formed the now famous “Tteokbokki Street.” The elderly proprietor is well known, even starring in a red-pepper paste (gochujang) ad in the 1990's.

The secret of this restaurant’s tteokbokki lies in the fact that red pepper paste is mixed with Chinese soybean paste for a sweet and spicy taste, but has now been adopted by other Sindang-dong restaurants. Nevertheless, there is something special about this restaurant’s fare. At present, Mabongnim’s daughters-in-law are running the restaurant.

Daehangno (대학로)

La zona de Daehangno, también escrita como Daehak-ro y Daehakro, es conocida como la calle de la juventud universitaria, ya que allí se ubicaba originalmente la Universidad Nacional de Seúl. Desde los años 80, muchos teatros comenzaron a trasladarse a Daehangno, y este lugar comenzó a desarrollarse como un centro cultural. Pronto se abrieron también cafés con música en vivo, salas de cine, cafés comunes y pubs, y la zona creció para convertirse en todo un distrito de entretenimiento. Su popularidad se mantiene aún por los famosos teatros pequeños tales como el Teatro Parangsae (Pájaro Azul) y Teatro Hakjeong, y unos 30 teatros adicionales, que contribuyen a que Daehangno continúe siendo un espacio neurálgico del arte en Corea.

En el centro de Daehangno está el Parque Marronnier, donde se realizan conciertos musicales en vivo o funciones de danza, interpretados por gente joven. Otra razón por la que se ha vuelto tan popular entre los jóvenes es la variedad de sitios interesantes y restaurantes que se pueden hallar aquí, facilitando lugares para reunirse antes o después de las obras teatrales o conciertos.

Café Moon has a trendy interior design and includes a realistic 'moon' mounted on one of the walls. The inside and outside of the café are decorated with hanok designs, designs of traditional Korean houses. The inner courtyard of the grounds is often the stage for a variety of parties and music performances held throughout the year. From the late spring into fall, Café Moon holds musical performances of traditional instruments from around the world. Built in 1939, Dongchonchae was designated as Seoul Well Hanok by the Seoul Metropolitan City in 2016. In 2020, this hanok (traditional Korean house) received the Certificate of KOREA QUALITY from the Korea Tourism Organization in the Heritage Hanok field in recognition of its historicity and quality of services. Dongchonjae is located in the western side of Gyeongbokgung Palace, at Seochon. When one passes through its main gate, one sees the yard, with anchae (women's quarters), sarangchae (men's quarters), and byeolchae (detached quarters) surrounding the plot. Anchae has four rooms, daecheong (wood-floored main hall), a kitchen, and a restroom. One of the rooms is used for tea ceremonies as well. Outside of the sarangchae and byeolchae, which are the living spaces for the owners, visitors have free access to the numaru (raised open floor) and the yard. The anchae’s rooms “Bom” and “Yeoreum” can accommodate 2 to 3 adults each, while the rooms “Gaeul” (Tea Room) and “Gyeoul” are optimal for two. The building is rented out as a whole, so no more than one group may stay in the building at any given time. Standard occupancy is four persons, and eight is the maximum number. There are two restrooms, one within the anchae building, one out in the backyard.
Cooking is not allowed in the kitchen, but guests are free to bring in outside food. Experience programs on offer include nighttime exploration of Seoul City Wall, tea ceremony, folk songs, and rice cake making. Additional payment is only required for rice cake making. Guests may choose between two types of complimentary breakfast: Korean, which comes with rice, soup, and three side dishes; and Western, which comes with bread, salad, and coffee. There are a 100-in screen and mini projector for film watching in the yard or daecheong. Towels, toiletries, hair dryer, bottled water, traditional tea, and capsule coffee are included. The kitchen is equipped with kitchen utensils, a microwave, and a coffee pot, enough for instant foods. Guests also have access to refrigerator and washing machine

Parque Marronnier (마로니에공원)

El parque Marronnier tiene en su centro un árbol “marronnier” (castaño de Indias –Aesculus-) simbólico, y en el área se congregan toda clase de centros de eventos culturales al aire libre, exhibiciones de escultura y centros de arte. El área comenzó a desarrollarse en 1975, cuando la Universidad Nacional de Seúl fue trasladada aquí, y unos 50 teatros pequeños y 500 cafés concentrados en el área hicieron a este lugar un sitio de reunión y relajación enormemente querido por los jóvenes y ancianos por igual. El parque se vuelve especialmente concurrido los fines de semana, cuando las multitudes se congregan para compartir los eventos culturales. Las bandas y los cantantes, así como los grupos de baile y los comediantes se reúnen y dan actuaciones in situ. Los adivinos y los artistas callejeros también se hallan aquí y le dicen su fortuna o le dibujan retratos. El parque tiene muchos árboles y bancos para sentarse y relajarse, convirtiéndolo en el lugar ideal para la relajación y los paseos pausados. El parque Marronnier es una parte de Daehangno, la famosa calle conocida como la “meca de las obras”. Además de las obras, aquí hay muchas actuaciones culturales y restaurantes interesantes y cafés que hacen de este lugar el destino habitual de reunión favorito de muchos jóvenes.
