Muryangsa Temple, located at the foot of Mansusan Mountain in Buyeo-gun, Chungcheongnam-do, is said to have been built during the reign of Silla King Munmu by national preceptor Beomil. Geungnakjeon Hall can be seen after passing through Sacheonwangmun Gate, recognizably the best location for taking in the beauty of Muryangsa Temple. The temple grounds hold the Two-story Geungnakjeon Hall, Five-story Stone Pagoda, and Stone Lantern, all in a row.

The temple is also famous for being the place where Kim Siseup, one of the Saengyuksin (Six Loyal Subjects of the Joseon dynasty), spent his last few days before death. Visitors can see his portrait inside the temple. Although the temple site is included in Buyeo-gun’s administrative district, it is located closer to downtown Boryeong.

Chunjangdae Beach offers a gentle 1.5-degree slope and a thick grove of pine and acacia trees, making it popular as a summer vacation destination. A meeting plaza is located at the midpoint of the beach, and walking paths connect to nearby islands. At low tide, visitors can catch shellfish and flatfish in the mudflat. Nearby attractions include the Busa Sea Wall, Hongwonhang Port, and Camellia Grove in Maryang-ri.

In Boryeong-si, Chungcheongnam-do, Boryeong Eunhaeng (Ginkgo) Village is filled with ginkgo trees. It is also called “Cheongna Eunghaeng Maeul” (청라 은행 마을) and “Green Rural Tourism Village” (녹색농촌체험마을).

Upon entering the village, murals can be seen, which are enhanced by ginkgo trees throughout the village, particularly in autumn when they change a dazzling yellow.

The village uses Janghyeon Elementary School, which closed in 1991, as a market place and local experience venue. Permanent hands-on programs and seasonal countryside activities, making a mosaic with ginkgo leaves, and shaking and gathering ginkgo leaves are also available.

Hongwonhang Port, located near Chunjangdae Beach, is a popular place for enjoying sea fishing and delectable meals of fresh raw fish. In addition to its culinary appeal, the port offers the picturesque scene of long stretches of shoreline guarded by two beacons in red and white. Hongwonhang Port has many fishing boats thanks to its small tidal range, resulting in a lively atmosphere and cheap sashimi prices.

Hongwonhang Port, along with Gwangyanghang Port in Jeollanam-do, is the prime spot for gizzard shad. Each autumn the port holds the Gizzard Shad Festival, a festival that has plenty of events & delectable fish dishes. While at the festival, visitors are also encouraged to check out the Seocheon Museum of Marine & Natural History and Dongbaekjeong. The stuffed specimens at the museum are worth the visit and the view of Maryang Port from atop the museum is unbelievable.

Gwangcheon Cave Salted Shrimp Complex is a collection of shops offering saeujeot (salted shrimp), a specialty of Gwangcheon. Gwangcheon’s proximity to the Yellow Sea makes it a famous place for jeotgal (salted seafood), particularly those made with shrimp. Gwangcheon’s saeujeot (salted shrimp) is stored and aged in a former mine cave tunnel, so it has great quality. There is even an exhibition hall dedicated to Gwangcheon cave salted shrimp. The Gwangcheon Cave Salted Shrimp & Dried Laver Festival is held in October.

Seosan Hoegwan is a webfoot octopus specialty restaurant located right in front of the tidal flats. The webfoot octopus caught here, using conch shells to attract them, is exceptionally fresh and flavorful. Popular dishes include jukkumi cheolpan bokkeum (stir-fried webfoot octopus on hot iron plate) and jukkumi shabu shabu (webfoot octopus shabu-shabu) with the peak season lasting from February to early May. Additionally, various seafood dishes such as ureoktang (spicy rockfish stew), kkotgetang (spicy blue crab stew), and nakji tangtangi (chopped live octopus) are available. Nearby attractions include Seocheon Coastal Glamping Site and the beach.
