Rakkojae is a place where the customs of the aristocrats in the past are melted in various places, creating a wonderful atmosphere by carefully reviving the pavilion, ponds, and daecheongmaru. Especially, Daecheongmaru adds the beauty of the margins of hanok to give you a sense of refreshment. As the old scholars did, sitting on the pavilion makes the time flow slow and the wind that passes over the Sotdae feels special.
In addition, you can experience the beauty of Korean tradition with various programs such as tea ceremony, jjimjilbang, royal robes, and kimchi-making along with traditional Korean food. La galerie Hyundai a été inauguré sous le nom de Hyundai Hwarang (galerie) à Insadong (Jongno-gu, Séoul) en avril 1940. Pendant plus de quarante années, cette galerie a exposé des pièces d’artistes coréens tels que Park Soo Keun, Joong Seop Lee, Whanki Kim, Ucchin Chang, Kyung Ja Chun, Dai Won Lee, Young Kuk Yoo, Ufan Lee, Nam June Paik, ou encore Shim Moon-seup.

Elle possède et gère désormais de nombreuses salles d’exposition comme « Le Nouvel Espace », « L’Espace Principal » (chacune avec deux étages), et « L’Espace Gangnam ». La Galerie Dugahun (affiliée à la Galerie Hyundai) n’est qu’à quelques pas du Nouvel Espace et est gérée conjointement avec Dugahun, un restaurant à vins situé dans une hanok (maison traditionnelle coréenne).

L’Espace Gangnam peut se vanter d’avoir un mélange éclectique de pièces et de styles d’artistes à la fois internationaux et coréens. La Galerie Hyndai gère aussi une « Galerie Fenêtre», salle d’exposition pour les artistes prometteurs.

The Hanok Smith Likes is an Italian restaurant that can be found in an alley near the Embassy of the Republic of Poland. The restaurant is famous for serving homemade Italian cuisine in traditional Korean house in Samcheong-dong.
The Smith in the restaurant’s name refers to a Mr. Smith, a virtual person cooks his favorite dishes in a hanok. One of the interesting aspects about this restaurant is that they serve hwadeok pizza (brick oven pizza) and pastas which are not the Korean dishes one might expect given the hanok exterior. They also serve salads, risotto, steak and wine at the restaurant. Particularly, the nighttime atmosphere of the restaurant offers a more serene and cozy experience thanks to the traditional hanok architecture.

“The Place Seoul” is located in a small alley in Gyedong-gil, Jongno-gu, Seoul. It is a guesthouse made by remodeling an 80-year-old traditional Korean house. The ondol room furnished with traditional beddings is popular not only among foreigners but also among Koreans due to its special ambience. The ceiling of the room dates back to 80 years ago. The rafter put on the roof at the time of construction of the house shows the antiqueness of the house. The toenmaru (a narrow wooden porch running along the outside of a room) that comes alive with the frequent coming and going of people adds to the ambience of the traditional Korean house, with the Sansuyu (corni) tree and vegetable garden beside the Korean-style house creating a leisurely atmosphere. Beyond being a mere place to sleep in, “The Place Seoul” aims to be a composite cultural space whose motto is “the place to fill.” A simple wedding or a small-scale performance is held in the garden during the day. The rooms can be rented for small meetings. “The Place Seoul” sponsors “WWOOF KOREA,” an NGO promoting environment-friendly agriculture as well as the right dietary life, “Slow Food Korea,” and “Slow Box.” As such, the place serves a special healthy breakfast consisting of homemade bread, handmade yogurt, and organic fruits and vegetables. In addition, the toilet paper, detergent, shampoo, etc. provided are all environment-friendly products. “The Place Seoul” is located on Gyedong-gil Road, a famous tourist attraction in Seoul. It offers easy access to Bukchon Hanok Village, which is on the other side of the Gyedong-gil alley, as well as other major tourist attractions within walking distance including Changdeokgung Palace, Gyeongbokgung Palace, Samcheong-dong, and Insa-dong. La demeure traditionnelle Baek In-je, située à Bukchon (quartier Gahoe-dong), est une maison hanok construite dans le style occidentale et qui est restée dans son état originel. Il s'agit d'une demeure typique de l'époque impérialiste du Japon en Corée. Construite autour d'un pavillon principal, cette demeure comprend différents petits pavillons annexes ainsi que plusieurs jardins. Cette demeure met parfaitement en valeur la beauté des maisons traditionnelles 'hanok' en Corée tout en dévoilant une façette moderne de ce type d'habitat. Il s'agit d'une structure représentative du village Bukchon avec la demeure traditionnelle Yun Bo-seon.

Cette demeure (1907), qui utilise pour sa structure des pins noirs du Japon, constitue un habitat typique de l'aristocratie de l'époque. Cette demeure a aussi la particularité de relier les deux pavillons principaux (appelés 'Sarangchae' et Anchae') par un couloir alors que ces pavillons sont traditionnellement séparés dans les autres demeures de ce type. Ainsi, il n'est pas nécessaire de sortir pour se déplacer entre ces deux espaces. On trouve également des couloirs construits à la manière japonaise, des sols avec tatami, des murs de briques rouges, et des fenêtres en verre, autant d'éléments qui reflétent l'évolution des goûts architecturaux de l'époque. Autre spécificité du lieu, le pavillon Sarangchae est construit sur 2 étages, un trait unique pour une maison de ce type en Corée.
