Este museo proviene de la "Galería Soodo", que fue construida en Chungmuro, antigua sede de la universidad, en 1959. Al necesitar más espacio para ampliar su colección, el museo se cambió a su emplazamiento actual y fue inaugurado el 5 de mayo de 1973. Este edificio de cuatro plantas fue construido al estilo de una torre de la Era Baekje, y fue ampliado el 20 de mayo de 1977. Cuando el nombre de la universidad cambió a Universidad de Sejong en 1979, el museo también pasó a llamarse "Museo de Sejong".
