El área de la puerta Seosomun fue un lugar de persecución religiosa en el siglo XIX, antes de convertirse en el parque local actual. Seosomun era una puerta de entrada al mercado Chilpae, ubicado cerca de la puerta Sungnyemun (Namdaemun).
