Este mercado se inició como puestos pequeños de vegetales para extranjeros residentes de Corea en el siglo XIX. Con el aumento de visitantes y viajeros de ferris, los diversos puestos llegaron a formar un mercado permanente con productos internacionales. El mercado dispone de un centro de información que ofrece datos sobre el turismo local e información sobre el comercio y negocios a los visitantes. Fue registrado oficialmente en el año 1970 y actualmente tiene unos 140 puestos. Los platillos especiales del mercado son dakgangjeong (pedazos de pollo frito bañados en salsa picante y dulce), empanadas de aire, sinpowoori mandu, sundae, etc.
