El primer restaurante de fideos fríos naengmyeon que abrió en el barrio de Hwapyeong-dong, en Incheon, lo hizo entre principios y mediados de los años 70 del siglo XX. No fue sino hasta principios de la década de los 2000 que el área vio una afluencia de más de 20 restaurantes de naengmyeon. Hoy en día, los visitantes pueden elegir entre 13 restaurantes. Al principio, las porciones aquí eran iguales a las que se encuentran en cualquier otro lugar de Corea, pero muchos de los trabajadores de las fábricas de la zona venían aquí y pedían porciones adicionales durante la hora del almuerzo. Con el tiempo, los restaurantes comenzaron a servir tamaños más grandes, lo que naturalmente llevó al uso de un tazón grande, parecido al que se usaría para lavarse la cara (que lleva el nombre de sesutdaeya, en coreano). Otra especialidad del naengmyeon de aquí es la adicion de yeolmu-kimchi (kimchi de rábano joven de verano). Muchos restaurantes también ofrecen porciones extra y gratuitas de fideos.
