Having gained much attention for coffee expertise through Animok Cafe Street since the 1980s, Gangneung in Gangwon State is the first local district in Korea to host a coffee festival and support coffee artisans as well as promote development of coffee related facilities and content such as coffee museum, coffee street, coffee factory, barista academy, and more. With almost all coffee shops in the area roasting their own coffee beans, Gangneung is well-recognized as the "city of coffee."

Gangneung is as renowned for its delicious coffee as it is for its scenic coastline. Strolling along the cafe-lined beaches of Gangneung, visitors can experience a coffee aroma that rivals the sea breeze. Famous coffee manufacturers attend the Gangneung Coffee Festival and hold a tasting event. At the opening ceremony, 100 baristas hold a “100 People 100 Tastes” performance where they simultaneously brew hand-drip coffee. Visitors are welcome to taste 100 kinds of coffee at this special event. During the festival, competitions are held to select the No. 1 barista for each category, including latte art, hand drip, and roasting. Tourists can also visit cafés in Gangneung that are taking part in the festival and receive a stamp to get a prize. Coffee enthusiasts should not miss this opportunity.

Songjeonghaebyeon Beach (송정해변(송정해수욕장))

The beach is located in Songjeong-dong with white sand, a length of 700 meters, and an area of 25,000㎡. The surrounding area is famous for its pine forests. It is said that when Choi Mun-han, the wife of King Chungsuk of Goryeo, came to Gangneung from Songdo, he brought 8 pine trees and planted them here. There is also the world's largest Charmsori Gramophone and Audio Museum, making it a great place to enjoy the summer and music. Visitors can also stay in the surrounding area, and accommodation facilities such as inns and hotels, are available in the Gyeongpo or downtown area.

Noam Tunnel (노암터널)

Noam Tunnel is a hidden attraction of Gangneung, stretching from Ipam-dong to Jungang Market. The old train tunnel was put out of use with the construction of the newer KTX line, and has now become a must-see attraction along the Gangneung Bau-gil Trail.

Eodalhaebyeon Beach (어달해변)

Eodalhaebyeon Beach is located 3-kilometer northeast from Donghae City Hall. It is a small charming beach with a 300-meter-long, and 20- to 30-meter-wide shoreline. It is characterized by fine sand, gentle slopes, and shallow water about 1 meter deep. The beach is one of the many beaches that can be seen while driving along the beach road, Ilchul-ro Road, which connects Mukho Port area to Mangsanghaebyeon Beach.

Eodal Port (어달항)

Eodal Port is a small port that was founded in 1984, and there are currently 70 boats that use the dock. It's a great place to get a take in the view of the coastal village nestled among the mountain foothills and soak up the port city atmosphere. Recreational fishing is also available at the breakwater or by hopping on a boat.
