Situated in Donghae, Mukhohang Port opened in 1941 and used to be the most prolific trading port on the east coast. However, with the steady change in the economy, it has now become a center of fishing. A large wholesale seafood market at the port offers a wide array of freshly caught seafood. From early in the morning, merchants across the country gather at the market to purchase fresh seafood. Dried fish are also available.

Mukho Lighthouse, located atop Dongmunsan Mountain, opened in June 1963 as an unmanned lighthouse guiding ships into Mukhohang Port. The two-story lighthouse is 12 meters tall and is made from cement. The white lighthouse stands out against the blue sea and sky to create a fantastic image. The area surrounding the lighthouse has been turned into a small park. There is a large rock inscribed with a poem about the sea near the park entrance.

Samcheok Jeongwol Daeboreum Festival (삼척정월대보름제)

Jukseoru Pavilion (삼척 죽서루)

Jukseoru Pavilion, estimated to have been built around 1266, is one of the eight major attractions of Gwandong District in middle eastern Korea collectively known as Gwandong Palgyeong (eight famous sites). Sitting on the edge of a cliff overlooking Osipcheon Stream, the pavilion incorporates the rocks on the cliff as cornerstones, with a five-girder paljak (ancient-style roof).

Then, there are 26 signboards hanging from the rafters of the pavilion. The signboards contain inscriptions of famous ancient scholars such as 'Jeilgyeongjeong' ('The best riverside pavilion'; 1662) by Heo Mok, 'Jukseoru' and 'Gwandong Jeilru' ('The best pavilion in Gwandong'; 1711) by Yi Seong-jo, and 'Haeseon Yuhui Jiso' ('The place that marine gods enjoy'; 1837) by Yi Gyu-heon. Others who have left their mark include King Sukjong (1674-1720), King Jeongjo (1776-1800) and Yulgok YiYi (1536-1584). Evidently, Jukseoru Pavilion has served as an inspiration since its establishment, and continues to inspire visitors today through the stunning view of its surrounding nature.

Dojjaebigol Haerang Observatory (도째비골 해랑전망대)

Dojjaebi is a dialect for dokkaebi, a mythical goblin in Korean folklore. Dojjaebigol Haerang Observatory, a 85-meter pedestian overpass, is designed to take the shape of a club known to be used dokkaebi. The word "haerang" means "the space where the sun, the sea, and you are all together." The entrance to the obsertory overpass is designed to give a sense as if one is warping into the realm of dokkaebi. The bridge floor is built using glass and mesh so that visitors can see the ocean water under their feet.

Samcheok Beach is easily accessible and has a vast white sandy beach that is 1.2 kilometers long and 100 meters wide. Buheung Hoetjip is a restaurant near Mukho Port specializes in serving fresh seafood caught the same day, exclusively using wild-caught fish for its menu. The restaurant closes for the day once the ingredients are sold out. Its signature dish is mul hoe (cold raw fish soup). Other menu items include modeum hoe (assorted sliced raw fish), daegu tang (codfish soup), and hoe deopbap (raw fish bibimbap). Be prepared for a waiting time that may exceed 30 minutes during lunch hours. The restaurant is conveniently located near Nongoldam-gil Street, an area that preserves the winding alleyways reminiscent of a 70s fishing village.

Nongoldam-gil Street, formed in 1941, was transformed in 2010 with the "Nongoldam-gil Street" project by the Donghae Culture Center. With the help from the village seniors and local artists, the street became a canvas storytelling the history of Mukhohang Port and the lives of the villagers. There are also many cafes located along the street, perfect for taking a break to enjoy the view.
