Gamchusa Temple (감추사)

Gamchusa Temple is a small temple in Yongjeong-dong in Donghae. There are only four buildings in the premises, but each building is neatly tucked away among the rocks, creating a picturesque scene. Most temples located near the sea are usually popular prayer spots, believed to be overseen by the Buddha and the Dragon King, who resides in the ocean. As such, many flock to the temple to pray asking for family well-being and prosperity. By the entrance of the temple is a five-story pagoda, which is said to have been built by a man who wanted to grant his mother's will before passing away. Due to its location by the sea, the temple offers spectacular views of the surrounding valley cliffs and the ocean.

Hanseomhaebyeon Beach & Hanseom Gamseong Sea Trail (한섬해변&한섬감성바닷길)

Hanseomhaebyeon Beach is a popular tourist attraction due to its proximity to Donghae downtown and its convenient transportation access. As visitors descend while crossing the bridge, they are greeted by the vast blue sea and white sand beach. The tranquility and white sand make it a perfect spot for a leisurely beach stroll. Mukho Lighthouse, visible in the distance alongside the blue sea and white sand, serves as a picturesque backdrop for photos. The Hanseom Gamseong Sea Trail is a 2.2-kilometer-long trail, connecting Hanseomhaebyeon Beach, Gobulgae, and Gase Village. Part of the trail is a deck-built promenade, making it a perfect course for a stroll while enjoying the lush pine forest on one side and the blue sea on the other.

Sanya near Mukho Port is famed for its ssambap (leaf wraps and rice) and offers two vegetable-centric dishes: saengseon gui (grilled fish), accompanied by fresh vegetables, and ssambap paired with a tradtional, rustic doenjang jjigae (soybean paste jjigae). Additionally, the menu includes samgyeopsal (grilled pork belly), gabeurisal (grilled blade-end fatback), and someori gukbap (beef head meat and rice soup). Conveniently situated just 1 kilometer from KTX Mukho Station, the restaurant is within easy walking distance.

Pencil Museum (연필뮤지엄)

Pencil Museum, located in Donghae, is the first museum in Korea dedicated to pencils and has a collection of over 3,000 pencils from 100 countries worldwide. The exhibition consists of a pencil history corner and a themed exhibition that displays art pencils and character pencils. The museum also has an experience center where visitors can test out different kinds of pencils and a dedicated collection exhibit area. The 4th floor consists of an art shop and a cafe where one can enjoy the view of the East Sea.

추암조각공원 (Chuam Sculpture Park)

Located in Chuam-dong in Donghae, Gangwon State, Chuam Sculpture Park is connected to the nearby landmark attraction Chuam Chotdaebawi Rock. It has many sculpture artworks, an outdoor stage, and resting areas. Another noteworthy exhibition is the memorial wall built to pay respect to the allies who had fallen during the Korean War. The park's walking trail passes by landmarks that are known to be some of the best sunrise spots, such as Chuam Chotdaebawi Rock, Chuam Beach, and Isabu Lion Park.

Haeamjeong Pavilion (동해 해암정)

Built on a coast in Bukpyeong-dong, Donghae, Haeamjeong Pavilion is located in a spot where the ocean and oddly shaped rocks come together to create a picturesque view. Haeamjeong Pavilion was originally built by Sim Dong-ro in 1361. However, the original pavilion had been damaged and underwent reconstruction in 1530 by Sim Eon-gwang, the founder's 7th descendant in line, and took today's form after the final renovation in 1794. The pavilion is a great spot to watch the breathtaking sunrise.

A small and quiet beach, Jeungsan Beach is located four kilometers away from downtown Samcheok. With an average depth of one to two meters, it attracts many vacationers in the summer. Chuam Chotdaebawi Rock in Donghae-si, Gangwon-do is one of Korea’s most famous tourist attractions. The beautifully formed rock towers high into the sky and resembles a candlestick, from which it gets its name. Once upon a time, there was a man who lived in Chuam who had a concubine. His wife was jealous of the second wife and the conflict between the two women continually escalated. One day, god became enraged over their continual quarreling and threw lighting down from heaven, striking both women dead. The newly-made widower missed his wives so much that he remained frozen in his loneliness and eventually turned into a rock, which is now called Chotdaebawi Rock.

Chuam Beach (추암해변)

Chuam Beach is a white sandy beach with various unique rock formations. Even though the beach itself is small, there are plenty of things to see like beautiful sunsets, a suspension bridge over the ocean, and the famous Chotdaebawi Rock. The suspension bridge is a perfect photo spot with the East Sea in the backdrop. There is also Haeamjeong Pavilion, first built in 1361 and renovated in 1790. Chuam Sculpture Park at the end of the suspension bridge is also worth a visit.

East Sea Jungang Market (동쪽바다중앙시장)

동쪽바다 중앙시장은 1943년경 묵호항 개항과 함께 자연스럽게 형성된 시장이다. 2001년부터 현재까지 비가림(하양막) 시설을 연차적으로 설치하여, 전통적인 재래시장에서 탈피한 현대적인 시장으로 탈바꿈하였다. 주차장 시설도 갖추고 있으며, 2006년에는 시장 상인회가 구성되고 인정시장으로 등록되었다. 시장 내에는 고소한 냄새로 사람들의 발길을 끄는 ‘구이 타운’과, 2016년 중소기업청 공모사업인 ‘청년상인 창업 지원 사업’의 일환으로 조성된 청년몰 ‘싱싱스’가 함께 운영되고 있어 더욱 활기찬 분위기를 자아낸다.

East Sea Jungang Market naturally formed after the opening of Mukho Port in 1943. Since 2001, the market has been installing rain covers and transitioning from a traditional-style market to a modern-day market equipped with a parking lot. In addition to the wide array of goods, the market also has Gui Town ("Grill Town"), attracting customers with savory cooking smell, and a youth market "Singsings."
