Oryukdo is a rocky island located in the oceanside of the Yongho-dong neighborhood. Depending on the tides, Oryukdo (“O” meaning “5”, “Yuk” meaning “6”) sometimes looks as if it is made of five or six islets. Several decades after the Busanhang Port opened (1876), a lighthouse was built (November 1937) in Batseom Island of Oryukdo to guide ships traveling to and from the island. Initially only 6.2 meters high, the lighthouse underwent renovations (completed in December 1998) and now stands tall at 27.5 meters. The lighthouse is home to an exhibition room showing photos of major lighthouses in Korea and boasts a stunning view of Busanhang Port as well as an unforgettable nightscape.

Gugine Nakji Bokkeum is an octopus restaurant that local people in Busan frequently visit. The restaurant sticks to the essentials of octopus cuisine: nak gop sae (stir-fried octopus, small intestine and shrimp), a fantastic combination of octopus and tripe; sannakji jeongol (octopus hot pot); and hot seaweed-flavored yeonpo tang (octopus soup). Among these, the most famous menu is nak gop sae. Nak gop sae is a stew made with octopus, small beef or pork intestines, and shrimp together with various vegetables. Although it originated in Busan, it is now a popular dish throughout Korea for its spiciness and unique flavors. Gugine Nakji Bokkeum offers spiciness options, allowing their customers to choose between spicy and mild flavors. Visitors used to spicy food are recommended to try the spicy version while those who are not used to spicy food can enjoy the flavor combination created by the ingredients by choosing the mild version. Gimhae Astronomical Observatory opened on February 1, 2002 as part of the Millennium Commemorative Project that started in December 1998. It was built to satisfy the general public’s curiosity about the universe and celestial bodies, inspire young people, and give everyone a unique, memorable experience. The observatory is shaped like an egg, in memory of the legend of King Kim Suro, the founder of the Garak Kingdom, according to which the king was born from an egg.

It is said that the queen of King Suro, Heo Hwang-ok, was a princess from the Indian country of Ayuta. Since sophisticated navigation equipment had yet to be invented, it can be assumed that she found her way to the Garak Kingdom by following the stars. It is also said that a prince of the Garak Kingdom built an observatory on the highest point of a mud fortress in Jinrye in order to make astronomical observations. The place is still referred to as Bibidan, which means a place to watch the stars.

These historical facts indicate the stars were very important to the Gaya, an ancient kingdom established mainly in the Gimhae area. The peak of Bunseongsan Mountain, where the observatory is located, offers sweeping views of the entire area of Gimhae. The night sky of Gimhae offers a breathtaking sight.
