Gangneung Gamja Ongsim has been serving gamja ongsim (potato ball soup) in Gangneung since the 1980s. Gamja ongsim is a local dish of Gangneung, made of grated potatoes mixed with starch powder and shaped into balls. Gangneung Museum of Art was opened in September 2006 and re-opened as a museum managed by the city of Gangneung in April 2014.
