Known as a popular fishing spot and recreation site, Andongho Lake is an man-made lake created by obstructing the upper stream of the Nakdonggang River as part of the government’s Four Major Rivers Restoration Project. Andong Dam is the second largest dam in Korea, following Soyanggang Dam. The x_height of the dam is 83 meters and the length is 612 meters.
The landscape surrounding Andongho Lake is nothing short of magnificent. There is a dock for boats on the lake, which is also popular as a fishing destination. Bass caught here are especially strong and tasty. An international bass fishing tournament is held here every year. Chiam Old House in Andong, Gyeongsangbuk-do, was the home of Chiam Lee Man-hyeon, a Joseon official in the time of King Gojong, and is now a Gyeongsangbuk-do cultural treasure. Five of the buildings - Anchae, Sarangchae, Daemunchae, Byeoldangchae, and Byeolchae - have guestrooms, and reserving two or three rooms together enables visitors to feel they’re staying in a Joseon yangban’s house. Daemunchae has the best views over the house and surrounding landscape. The flower garden is a nice place to stroll and ponder the beauty of nature.

The 150-year old Mancho Gotaek (Old House) in Imha-myeon, Andong, Gyeongsangbuk-do, was the home of Mancho Im Dong-han, a Joseon courtier at the court of King Gojong, and is an Andong cultural heritage asset. With a mountain behind and a stream flowing in front of it, this was a perfect spot for a house according to Korean pungsu (feng shui). Oryuheon, near Lake Imha in Andong, Gyeongsangbuk-do, is a 400-year-old Joseon period house and a national folk cultural asset. The delicate window and screen muntins and parquet floors in the sarangchae (men’s quarters) and daemunchae (gate house) exemplify the magnificence of yangban houses of the 1600s. The guestroom is in an annex building and consists of a large sleeping room, a daecheongmaru living room, and a bathroom/toilet. Cooking is not allowed, but a free Korean breakfast is provided, and barbecues can also be arranged. Nearby are Imhaho Water Leisure Camp, Manhyujeong Pavilion, and Hahoe Village.

Chohae Gotaek (Old House) in Uiseong, Gyeongsangbuk-do, is a hanok stay which has stood for 100 years in Sachon Village - a traditional Confucian village. The house was built and lived in by the Pungsan Ryu clan, one of the most important Andong families going back to the 1500s. Built of Korean pine, the house has a classic hanok style, with some really beautiful touches: the elegant lines and the patterns in the windows and floor have all been admired by traditional architecture experts.

Hakbong Head House in Andong, Gyeongsangbuk-do, is the head house of the Uiseong Kim Clan. Originally built by Joseon scholar and educator Hakbong Kim Seong-il, it was moved to its present location in 1964. As a head house it has an unusually wide daecheong, as well as a large yard and garden with various trees and oddly shaped rocks. Concerts are regularly held at the old house. Hakbong’s descendants inherited not just this historic house, but also his patriotic spirit, many of them devoting themselves to the anti-Japanese independence movement.
