Gapyeong Station began operations upon the opening of the Gyeongchun Line on July 25, 1939. The station was damaged during the Korean War and restored on June 12, 1957. The double-tracked Gyeongchun Line was opened on December 21, 2010. The ITX-Cheongchun Train, which includes Gapyeong Station as one of its stops, began operations on February 28, 2012 and travels along the Gyeongchun Line.
Gapyeong's name was given by King Gyeongdeok of the Unified Silla Period to describe the region's natural beauty. Gapyeong and its tourist attractions, Nami Island in particular, grew in popularity after being featured in the Korean drama "Winter Sonata (2003)."

Lemongrass Pension is a private pension nestled next to a clean stream at the foot of Sorisan Mountain in Yangpyeong, Gyeonggi-do Province. The pension also has a front lawn that is well maintained. The front lawn is connected to a deck and there are also convenient facilities such as bench and rocking chair. In particular, the pension has an outdoor barbecue area that is shared by all guests. You can enjoy the luxury of having a meal over the panoramic view of Sorisan Mountain. There are also complementary facilities that the guests can use conveniently including cafeteria, foot volleyball court, and baseball court. Vivaldi Park is only 10 minutes away from the pension. Yangpyeong Wildflower Arboretum, Semiwon, and Gwangtan Recreation Area are also located nearby.

The Jarasum International Jazz Festival is held every October on the beautiful Jaraseom Island in Gapyeong-gun, Gyeonggi-do. During the festival, world-famous jazz artists come together to delight audiences with the smooth vibes of live jazz.

Baengnyeonsa Temple is surrounded by mountains, as it is located off Yongmunsan, Myeongjisan, and Daegeumsan Mountains. On each side of the temple, one can also find Unaksan Mountain as well as Cheonmasan Mountain. In addition, just behind the temple are Chungnyeongsan Mountain and Seorisan Mountain.
This temple was built relatively recently, so the temple only has a few cultural treasures. However, as compared to the average temple in Korea, it is distinguished by its well-designed and refined architectures. The decorations in the temple are simple, with no overly vibrant colors nor complicated designs so as to help in seeking peace and inspiration.
The temple is also known for its hiking trails and beautiful scenery offered by the surrounding mountains.

Located on Jaraseom Island, Nine Forest Ewhawon was renewed in 2015. The garden spans over an area of 33,000 square meters with a 1,090 square meter butterfly ecology center, making it the largest butterfly park in the world. The park offers live butterflies and butterfly specimens all year long through the use of a greenhouse. Visitors can look at exhibitions and learn about butterflies and plants with detailed explanations from professional guides. Jaraseom Island also offers camping sites and hosts various festivals.

Jaraseom Island Auto Campground has been in operation since 2008 with the hosting of the Gapyeong International Camping Caravan Competition. JARA ISLAND takes its name from its view of a hill resembling a terrapin, "jara" in Korean.
