Surrounded by lush wildlife Bonggoksa Temple is located alongside the northeast valley in Bongsusan Mountain in Namdan, Songak-myeon. Both Daeeungjeon and Hyanggakjeon sit facing east, and to the north, is the large Yosache (residence for Buddhist monks). Behind the residence, an area has been leveled down for a restroom and storehouse. And Samseongak (a building where three saints are worshipped) is situated on top of the mound to the south of the temple. Although Samseongak was constructed in recent years, both Daeungjeon and Yosache are identified in the restored record that was found by Buddhist monk, Seobong in 1891. The temple has gained renown for being the place where Saint Mangong attained his Buddhist awakening and recited Odoseong, the zen poetry in July, 1895.

Sobok Galbi is a fourth-generation Korean beef galbi restaurant in Yesan. It has seen many customers over its history, including even the presidents of Korea. Its signature menus are saenggalbi (grilled galbi) and yangnyeom galbi (grilled marinated galbi). Yangnyeom galbi (grilled marinated galbi) takes bone-in galbi, which is marinated in sauce for 3 days and grilled on fine charcoal quickly to seal the juice and enrich the savory flavor. Saenggalbi (grilled galbi) is grilled without any marinade. Other menus include galbitang (galbi soup), seolleongtang (ox bone soup), and naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles). Gulhoe (raw oysters) is only offered during winter.

The city of Yesan is home to two notable markets: Yesan Fifth-day Market, which dates back to the 1920s, and Yesan Market, a permanent traditional market. Yesan has historically been a prolific producer of agricultural and livestock products, and the market served as a central point of regional specialties. In fact, Yesan apples are famous across Korea. On days ending with 0 and 5, a fifth-day market is held, which makes the market far larger and livelier. Yesan Rice Soup Street can also be found here.

'Solmeo' gets its name from a small cluster of pine trees. The first Korean priest, Saint Kim Dae-gun Andrea was born here on August 21, 1821 and when he was seven, he escaped persecution by following his grandfather to Handeok-dong, Yongin (Golmaemashil). Furthermore, it is where four generations of ancestors such as his great-grandfather Kim Jin-hu (martyred in 1814), great uncle Kim Han-hyun (1816), father Kim Jae-jun (1839), and priest Kim Dae-gun himself (martyred in 1846) lived.
He was chosen as a theological student in Golmaemashil and studied in Macao. In 1846, he was ordained as priest by Bishop Ferréol in Shanghai, Kim Ga Hang Cathedral. After his return to Korea, he worked in Yongin until September 1846 when he was tried, executed and died a martyr when he was only 26. Pope Johannes Paulus II appointed him a saint during his visit to Korea in May 1984. In Solmoe, Priest Kim Dae-gun’s statue and a memorial stands underneath the pine trees and his remains are placed inside the nearby cathedral.
