"Got" in the name of Wolgot means peninsula and the area was considered an important strategic point during the Joseon dynasty. In 1991 a land reclaimation project succeeded in creating a new recreation site. Now there are many seafood restaurants, various auxiliary facilities, and an amusement park that rest on reclaimed land. Because the inlet is located on the west coast where the difference in the water level between high and low tide is great, fishing boats avoid the area during the shifting tides. But, whenever the boats return, visitors can enjoy fresh sushi and other seafood. The Marine World facilities have authentic European-style restaurants, an outdoor seawater pool that can be used free of charge, and a barbecue facility along with other amenities.

Pyeongchang Jinbu Makguksu is a restaurant specializing in Pyeongchang memil makguksu (buckwheat noodles), using exclusively high-quality buckwheat flour from Pyeongchang. Their signature dishes include mulmakguksu (buckwheat noodles), bibim makguksu (spicy buckwheat noodles), and deulgireum makguksu (buckwheat noodles with perilla oil). Yangcheonhyanggyo Local Confucian School is the only educational institution of the Joseon dynasty remaining in Seoul, and as such was designated Seoul Monument No. 8. Built in the 12th year of Joseon King Taejong (1411), the old school was entirely restored in 1981. There are eight buildings in the premises, including Daeseongjeon Hall, Myeongnyundang Lecture Hall, and Jeonsacheong Hall to name a few. A national ritual service for Confucius is held here twice a year: once in spring and once in fall. Also, various programs are offered to teach Chinese characters, calligraphy, or Oriental painting to regular citizens, as well as elementary, junior, and high school students.

Haengjusanseong Fortress (Historic Site) atop Deogyangsan Mountain was the site of one of the three major Korean victories against the enemy during the Imjin War (1592-1598). Inside the fortress is Chungjangsa Shrine, a place to pay tribute to General Gwon Yul who led the victorious feat. A cultural event to pay tribute to General Gwon Yul is held every March 14.
