Byulgung is a large hanok pension complex located in Chungcheongnam-do, northeast of Taean, whose long row of tiled roofs resemble a royal palace or a location used to film Korean dramas. There are 12 guest rooms, ranging from two-person rooms to group rooms. Most of them are ondol (underfloor heated) types, but some are bedroom types. There are also some rooms with a two-story structure or terrace. Bathrooms and kitchens are located indoors, making them convenient for guests. Samgilpohang Port is located in Seosan-si near the floodgate at the end of Daeho Seawall, connecting the area with Dangjin-gun. The 7.8-kilometer-long Daeho Seawall was completed on November 16, 1984 and is a popular drive course with a beautiful view of the sea dotted with large and small islands. The seawall is also a popular for fishing. Around Samgilpohang Port are a number of hoe (sliced raw fish) restaurants where visitors can enjoy fresh seafood with a great view in a tranquil atmosphere. Daeho Seawall is also known as paradise for winter migratory birds, so it attracts a number of birds, photographers, and birdwatchers every winter.

Nanjiseom Beach on Nanjiseom Island in Dangjin, Chungcheongnam-do features soft white sand over a 700 meter-long, 50 meter-wide area. The water is shallow, clean and relatively warm, and a pine grove surrounds the beach. Nanjiseom Beach offers various convenience facilities such as campsites, showers, drinking fountains and bathrooms. Nanjido Island gets its name from the fact that there are many orchids (‘nan’) and gromwells (‘ji’) on the island and because it is the largest of the islands in the area, the word ‘dae (big)’ is attached to the beginning of the name. The island is particularly famous for its fine sand beach and many sweetbriers. With close distance to Seoul and metropolitan areas, the island is visited by many people throughout the year.

The Nanjido Island area is an archipelago with eight islands (including Nanjido Island). A tour of the area offers the chance to view diverse sea landscapes as well as exceptional view of the sunset.

Hagampo Auto Campground (학암포 오토캠핑장)

Hagampo Auto Campground is located near Hagampo Beach in the Yellow Sea on the northern side of Taean. Visitors can enjoy a dip in the sea while camping here. There are nearly 100 campsites here, including both standard and caravan sites, as well as sites for trailers. Hagampo Auto Campground is open all year round, and one has access to a fireplace and electricity. Nearby tourist sites include Taean Sindurihaeansagu Coastal Dune and Solhyanggi Trail.

Seosan Palbongsan Mountain (팔봉산(서산))

Palbongsan Mountain stretches out like a folding screen and stands high with great spirit. It is known that the mountain was named Palbong (“eight peaks” in Korean) because of its eight peaks standing in a row. There are actually nine peaks, but the smallest was not included. Legend says the smallest weeps over its exclusion at the end of every December. The third peak is the highest, standing at 362 meters with a beautiful view and crisp air, making it ideal for hiking (3-hour course) and resting at the top. There is another mountain of the same name in Hongcheon, so this mountain is usually referred to as “Seosan Palbongsan.”
