Bupyeong Pungmul Festival started in 1997 to establish the identity and pride of Bupyeong as well as develop and promote the success of the traditional culture. The music played at the festival, which sometimes takes center stage, is called ”pungak,” and the instruments and decorations used are collectively known as “pungmul.” This vibrant festival, which is centered around the joyous theme of pungmul, takes place in the heart of Bupyeong. It is a community festival with active participation from local residents, offering a rich taste of local charm. Don‘t forget to explore the Bupyeong Underground Shopping Center, the world’s largest underground shopping center listed in the Guinness World Records, and Bupyeong, the birthplace of Korean jazz.

Ganjeolgot Cape in Ulsan is the first place in Korea to see the the sunrise each day, with its end point sticking out into the ocean. The cape is the site of the annual New Year’s Sunrise Festival. The festival starts at sunset on December 31 and is filled with a wide range of performances that last throughout the night. At first light, people can be seen quietly standing with their hands clasped together, making a wish on the newly born year as they watch the sun rise over the ocean.

Many people come to celebrate a fresh start at the Jeongdongjin Sunrise Festival on the eve of one year and the first day of the New Year at Sandglass Park. The sandglass at the park has a diameter of 8.06 meters, a x_width of 3.2 meters, a weight of 40 tons, and holds 8 tons of sand, making it one of the biggest sandglasses in the world. It takes a whole year for sand to trickle to the bottom and then the sandglass restarts again on New Year’s Day each year at midnight.
Festival events include a fireworks display, the turning of the sandglass to start another year, and performances by various artists.
